Why are we still so obsessed with Parisian Style?
There’s a reason Parisian style has been endlessly examined over the years…broken down by designers, editors, and stylists. It’s impossible to fake it and you can’t buy it. It looks so simple but it’s easy to miss. It’s not about brands or even really clothes— it’s about character, authenticity. Parisian style isn’t fashion; it’s style. A style that is built over time, and shaped by really letting your clothes work for you, not trends. It means investing in fewer, better pieces and dressing with confidence.
Pared Down Palette: Black, navy, white, beige, and occasional red or gold
Flattering Silhouettes: Nothing too tight, too short, or too loud… chic
Polished Yet Relaxed: Structured blazer, casual hair and make up- mix moods
Subtle Sexiness: A silk blouse unbuttoned just enough; a red lip with no other makeup, hint of black lace
Quality Over Quantity: Elevated basics that last and fit beautifully, slightly worn out better than obviously new
Never look like you just bought a head to toe new look- 1 or 2 new items maximum, blend them with older, lived in pieces
Prints should be small dots or thin stripes
Build a uniform of core pieces:
A great blazer
Tailored trousers or high-waist jeans
Crisp white button-down
Cashmere sweaters
A trench coat
These are the anchors of the Parisian wardrobe.
Think quality over variety. Look for fabrics like wool, silk, cotton poplin, and leather.
Keep accessories minimal and meaningful. Choose:
One good bag (structured leather or vintage crossbody)
Small gold hoops
A silk scarf (here is a place to go designer- Chanel or Hermes preferred
No logos, no fuss
A well-cut jacket or pant will always elevate a simple tee and sneakers, Alterations are part of the Parisian secret. It’s not what you wear—it’s how it fits you.
Parisian style is about balance. A slip dress with loafers. A blazer over a satin camisole. A boxy coat with ballet flats.
This contrast creates that signature “je ne sais quoi.”
Style is about attitude. The sidewalk is your runway. Parisian women dress to please themselves.
Finishing Touches
Red lipstick (cool-toned or brick red depending on skin tone)
Well-fitted black lace bra
Real Perfume
Vintage broach

Jeanne Damas
Model, designer, and founder of Rouje, Jeanne is the poster child for contemporary Parisian chic. Red lips, tousled hair, vintage denim, and wrap dresses.
Caroline de Maigret
Model and music producer, Caroline is known for her nonchalant elegance, often pairing menswear-inspired pieces with undone hair and minimal makeup. She's co-author of How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are.
Inès de la Fressange
My boss in 1995! Also a timeless style icon who continues to embody Parisian sophistication well into her 60s. A former Chanel muse, Inès exemplifies polished ease with crisp shirts, flats, and blazers.
